According to the definition written by the Texas Medical Board, ‘surgical assisting’ means
providing aid under direct supervision…that assist a physician in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient… This term is synonymous with ‘first assisting.’
A surgical first assistant is a surgeon’s second pair of hands in the operating room providing skilled direct patient care for a wide range of operative procedures under the direct control and supervision of the surgeon. Beyond the operating room and on to billing, our concern for you as a patient extends as we rigorously adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The privacy of healthcare information is of the utmost importance to Key Access Institute, LLC. All contact and communication to an insurance provider on behalf the patient is done strictly within the bounds of HIPAA confidentiality.

Service to the Surgeon
Physicians who choose Key Access Institute, LLC (KAI) are inviting a team of experienced and skilled surgical first assistants into the operating room to assist them in delivering the highest quality care. KAI’s surgical assistants are qualified by training and experience to provide competent and professional surgical assistant services in accordance with applicable regulatory and Joint Commission standards.
Billing independently of the surgeon, we go immeasurably further to reduce the procedural red tape, hassle and exhaustion of reimbursement for our operative efforts.
Again, we operate under the HIPAA rules of privacy to protect patient health information while communicating directly to payors by way of our Billing and Medical Records Departments whether electronically or by conventional means.
